Be careful with online searches. There are many puppy mills and just plain thieves online. Do a search for AKC REGISTERED breeders. Even though these pups are a mix of breeds, I found breeders this way.

Brandie, you’re well on your way but it’s going to take awhile.

She is lovable, and hardly every barks. she is a grazer and never eats a full meal in one sitting. She can be very independent at times and no, at 4 months she still has accidents of the floor. she would never use the pee pads, so I took her out every hour and caged her at night.
I wouldn’t trade her for anything. she brings much joy to us.

OMG you will not be disappointed if you get this breed. (We have always had large breed dogs like labs) We got our Bailey two years ago and you wouldn’t believe how much a part of the family she has become. We had two kids at home when we got her and now they have flown the nest so to speak. They say that she was the most difficult thing about leaving lol! We put bells up on the door when we first got her (2 months old) and she figured out how to ring them when she wanted to go and was potty trained in a day! She now presses buttons to communicate her needs with us but her favorite is the “treat” button. Bailey rarely barks and LOVES her baths which I give her every other day. She has the most loving and hilarious personality. From the minute we got her she became obsessed with the Liberty Mutual commercial on TV and attacks us, or whoever is nearest to her with kisses when it comes on. ONLY that commercial though….hilarious. Our friends have one too and it’s the same deal with him being so funny, loving and easy. Amazing little breed.

Being gone all day is not a good plan for Potty training. Can you come home to let them out for 15 mins?

We have the same dog. Taking the dog out every two hours is the real key. Having a kenneling area to prevent the dog from going other places. Don’t let them on the rug as it is too hard to clean. Don’t get lazy. If the has an accident it is your fault you missed the cues for needing to go potty. good luck we used the kennel at night and one brake during the night. At 1 1/2 hrs old she stays in the areas of the house with vinyl when we are gone for 3 hours. Sleeps in our bed at night for 8 hrs and wakes us up if she has to pee or Poo. Tell you dog you are going “OUT” every time they will get the cue. Your consistency will make it work.

you have a long road to travel before your shichon will be fully trained. The more quickly you are able to accept this, the less frustrated you will become with accidents! The key thing to remember is the importance of paying attention to the cues they give you. Barking is a key one. Bark should always be treated as a request to go outside. Timing is another. Wake the dog in the night and take him outside. Take him out as soon as he awakens from his evening sleep or from a nap. If you are easily distracted, set alarms to draw you attention to the need for a walk. Pee pads can be life savers in the early stages when they lack bladder capacity and control but remember that they can become confused about where to pee.

be prepared to clean up often and remember that an ‘accident’ is always your responsibility and never the dog’s fault! Clean it up quickly, use a stain and smell neutralizer (enzymatic) and think carefully about what went wrong so you can improve your training methods. Reward successes extravagantly ;0). Gradually reduce the number of pads and move them toward the external door the pup is being trained to use.Introduce a bell on the door knob or some other simple method for the dog to use to let you know they need to go out. (I trained my Shichon to bark once) And patience, patience, patience.
