All breeds come with inherited health issues but of course that doesn’t mean that they will develop any of those particular issues. We just purchased our fourth Maltese and we have been on Maltese family for over 35 years. All of ours have lived to age 14 1/2 and one to age 15 1/2.
I would like to say if you get a Maltese, please use a harness and don’t use an extendable leash. Also never leave them outside unattended without keeping a very close watch because of birds of prey.
They are incredibly sweet, clever, loving, funny and energetic.
I feel they are very easy to train if you use positive reinforcement. All of my Maltese have been potty trained within one to two months. I’m always happy to share information because I love the breed so much and want to each one to find their forever loving home and live long happy healthy lives😊

I already named her Molly. I am so afraid because of the health issues. Should I just worry about it, of just take a chance? They are the sweetest dogs. I worry about everything. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

This is such a comprehensive article on the Maltese dog. I want to surprise my daughter with a pure breed Maltese, and this information will definitely help me know what to look for

I agree – my beautiful girl passed this week age 13yrs & 5 mths, I am devastated! But I feel I will get a Maltese 1 day, after I grieve my sweet fur-baby.
Maltese are perfect little pups, very much a baby always. She was always with me, she watched TV with me, slept beside me, she watched me as I bathed & hated it if I ever had 2 leave her 4 a few mims.
Such pretty, preshus spirits with a big character. I miss my little girl terribly – my heart is very heavy! XXX

My vet ID-ed a belly mass Feb 14th that I’d missed. A big, bleedihg Liver mass surgically remved Feb 27. Tragically, it was the big ‘C’ & a very aggressive type – HSA. She died 22 April. I’m devastated!
I prayed surgery & daily chem tablets wd buy us time but it was 2 aggressive. I wish I had X ray, UltraSd every year, maybe twice a year, after she was 7, as the rib cage hides these lumps. By the time a vet tells U, it is 2 late.
Maltese R the best pups ever & I’d luv 2 get 1 but must grieve my girl 1st.

Both of them have black noses with some pink around the edges.
The breeder swore to me that this will disappear and that their noses will become solid black. I believed her…. but would feel more comfortable getting a second opinion from another expert.
