Don’t use this around the dogs eyes but have successfully used small quantities in there ears or other places. It will kill them although they may die and not turn loose but sometimes they do turn loose. If they have laid babies around them. This mixture will also kill them. Turpentine and iodine are what really works, and has antiseptic qualities. Never had a dog complain after the tick was off but they don’t like having this mixture applied, because some of the areas may be sore. I WILL NOT use Advantage 2 on any of my animals , I used it on a 4 year old husky and he lost all the hair on his back from the application site to his tail and then he died, within that week. He would have lived longer with the fleas. As far as I’m concerned Bayer Aspirin (The Manufacturer,) is responsible for his death. They never answered my emails. He was our male stud for service. The poison they use in it also killed spiders and scorpions. Very toxic stuff. Threw the rest of doses in the trash. Buyer beware don’t use Advantage II.

I use Revolution and found a big fat tick on my GSD. Not very impressed with this product. According to your article the tick should have fallen off.

My first time to read about it since we never have a dog before. This gives me a complete awareness about these critters and hope I won’t experience finding one in our dog but if ever I’ll know what to do. Laura from Long Island

You covered all my questions in one place and placed my mind at ease (knowing what to watch for and how to handle what I see makes me much less anxious). I just pulled a tick off my dog this morning and was trying to identify it (a Deer Tick apparently) but with all my looking, this was the first article that showed a picture looking exactly like what was on my dog. And then for you to handle all the follow-up questions of what to watch for and when to take him to the vet, wonderful! In all my years of having dogs, this was the first time we had a tick but I’ll be bookmarking this article and going out to get the Tick Twister so I’m more prepared for next time! Thanks so much!!!

A very comprehensive article with all the information. I didn’t know there were so many types of ticks and that they could cause so many problems. Thanks for sharing this with us. Now I’ll be even more careful about my pet.
