I am writing to you for a friend of mine who has a 12 year old dog who recently had to have his front leg amputated due to a tumor and has no stump left and researching this topic looks like the best fit would be a brace if you can please send me information regarding the costs and places in Chicago that you would recommend. I would like to have him enjoy the remainder of his life as comfortable as possible if you can please send me information I would appreciate it.

We have two amputee dogs. The first had recently had her hind leg removed when we adopted her and was first adapting to the loss and is doing spectacular! She runs faster than the rest of our pack. We recently adopted a puppy with nerve damage that had her front leg removed. She has come a long way but I see that it is much harder on a dog loosing their front rather than hind leg. I was researching a prosthetic but she has no stump. I will look into a brace for her to have additional support. Wish there were other options for her.

I have a 12 year old golden retriever with an ankle soft tissue tumor growing into his bone which is limited his use of his front right leg… vet has mention front leg amputation if chest xrays are clear in 2 weeks. Aspiration of tumor was inconclusive. Currently using a ramp and front harness to be able to assist him in moving in and out of the house… any suggestions?

My 9 month old Bloodhound had a rear amputation about 3 months ago. She seems to be adapting well, running around and such. However, I am becoming increasingly concerned that she looks really scrawny! Almost like a failure to thrive baby. I am beefing up her protein,, her complex carbs, and other foods that I know to be beneficial, like cottage cheese, raw eggs, etc. but she still looks so scrawny! Ruling out parasites, clots, seromas, Etc… Is there any advice about how to help her regain her normal body development at 9 months? She doesn’t seem to have grown much at all and her whole appearances like a dog who is starting to starve. Thank you so much!

My daughters dog just had her front left leg amputated at the elbow due to cancer. She is 5 years old. He did not fold and stitch skin over area not give her any info about how to cover and protect the stub. 3 days later it is bleeding. She is looking to see if there is a way to cover it (he left it unbandaged) to protect the area from trauma while it heals. Sorta like a sleeve with a cushioned bottom… is there any site we can go to to help?

Does a brace for the front leg need to be specially made? We have a bulldog that had his front leg amputed and he seems to be straining his front leg. If you can make any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

If not, can you please recommend something in book form that educates caretakers of amputee dogs (not necessarily owners) – shelters, pet sitters, etc.?
