Your message just made me cry, I just got the dreaded news this weekend that my little girl 14.3 yrs old Miney has a heart tumor and there is nothing they can do. They gave us meds to make her comfortabble and it’s day by day. I have her and her brother, and we are heart broken. I can’t stop crying . I see so many posts of other Bichons living longer and it aches my heart to wonder what I could’ve done differently. This pain is unbearable….and I know it is a result of the tremendous joy she has brought us ❤️

I got transferred for wk when he was 15 yrs and didn’t much like going from rain forest BC to central Canada to the -0 to -25 wi terms. He was doing well health wise until a month before his passing. He started having bowel problems and in the last wk of his life started having seizures and wouldn’t eat. The Dr felt he had an aggressive brain tumour and could give him meds to help w appetite, seizures and bowels but he would only get worse. In the last month he also started to yelp a sound he never made before. He would do that when I left the room. But I made the difficult choice to let him go because that was what was best for him. I miss him terribly he was the first dog I’d ever had. But now I have a new daughter names Kayra who is a Portuguese Water Dog. Now although B-Jay was very active his entire life a Portuguese Water Dog is in an entirely new category and she is fast. But she’ll never replace B-Jay only live along side him in perpetuity.

My dear Spanky passed away on Tuesday evening. He was 11 years and 9 months. He also had surgery on his back leg. I notice after Christmas he started slowing up. He passed out the other day and I took him to the Vet. Doctors were getting ready to run tests and came back and said “I’m sorry” . Spanky didn’t make it. This was the saddest news They suspect tumor near his heart. I cried and cried. I had him since he was around 6 weeks. He was like my child. I miss him so much and I’m grateful for the many years of life I experience with him and he was such a helper! Rest dear Spanky Rest!

He has traveled with us by car and boat his whole life. His back legs are weak now, he cant jump and only runs around when extremely happy (like my grandchildren come over or we get home from a car ride.) His appetite is good and I control his arthritic pain with the help of my vet. He still tells us when its time to go to bed but he likes his sleeping conditions to be on the cool side. So even in Illinois, the window is cracked open at night. He is a creature of habit feeding, meds, bedtime. He too is hard of hearing and I say he cant see well but he still barks at the door window when I drive in the driveway. He is happiest doing pretty much nothing, but he still goes wherever we go. I wont give up until he lets me know he’s had enough. Best dog I ever had.

Lost our 15 year Mia in Sept 2020.

In Nov 2020 picked up Joy as our new Bichon.

Will and can never forget Mia.

But Joy is a treasure too so get another Bichon to ease the pain,

Our Mia passed away on Sept 8, 2020 at age 15. At age 10 her hind legs gave out so the vet repaired both hind legs and she was young again until her passing. But never give up hope!!!

Studies show the average live span for Bichon Frise are 12 to 13 years. My rocky crushed that study by living to 17 plus years! Count yourself lucky Fred, Jeannine, Martha and Dyan. Cherish and remember all the extra years you had with your beloved canine! Morn, cry BUT know that they are in a better place, although not with you anymore, they are pain free, are not blind and can walk-run even without limitations.

I did not cry when we had to euthanize my Rocky, not because I wasn’t sad or heartless, But because I KNEW he was going to a better place, a place that I chose to send him because I loved him so much that I HAD to do it! Not for me but for him! Because I knew he was suffering, I could see it in his hazy-white eyes (he had gone blind years before) every time I looked into his expressionless face AND it galvanized me, gave my the strength to do the right thing.

That was in March, the 13th of 2021.

Every year, on his birthday (August 23rd) we get a cake or ice cream and celebrate his life, keeping his memory alive and in our hearts, our love for him has not diminished!
