I have a shepard x with a border collie heeler. Her energy level is insane and her agility makes her uncatchable when she desires. Its a hard mix to handle but extremely loving kind. Must raise with smaller animals or they will tend to be bad with them. Chase and eat etc.
Hiedi (our GCBh cross) loves our cat and 1 chicken. And children but knocks down little kids by accident alot.
Her natural guarding work ethic is also very high. She even barks preditorial birds away (protecting our cats chickens and rabbits).

I had a GSD/Collie mix for 11 years. Best Dog I ever had. I told everyone she was a Gollie. Very intelligent, calm & loved long walks.

I’m really confused if my dog is a shollie. They said he was but he has very short far. Only saw pic of mum but not dad. Is this possible

I notice that you use the term German shepherd/ collie in some headnotes but hen collie/ shepherd in others. Is it interchangeable OR does it have a parent sex meaning. For example does German Shepherd/ Border Collie mean that shepherd is male and collie is female and vice versa. Also, in size would the male be most likely the determining size? We are hard shoppers and have been researching this mix for a bit and so far, your site has been the most informative!

In reply to Samuel. When dogs are past the age of 6 months, their window for socialization has closed. They can be taught to tolerate new things still, and how to cope with other dogs, but they cannot learn to play with other dogs. The best thing you can do with a dog like this is to teach them to ignore anything but you. And a collie shepherd mix should take to this very well. Enlist the help of a trainer who understands this if you need help. These breeds are made for work. If you watch a police dog or a working collie, they're fixated on their owner, and carrying out the commands they give. In the case of shepherds, there could be literal bullets and bombs raining down, and all they care about is performing their task. You call teach your dog to do this as well while on a walk, or in your home. Set boundaries and expect them to obey, and they will. Best of luck to you.
