A bit late to the party. . .better late than never! I just got 2 – 12-week-old – Australian Shepherds. Excellent advice on the bathing! I was scared to death to try bathing, but your advice was spot on, and everything went according to plan. I’m still working on desensitizing them with the hair dryer. Only have 6 to 8 feet till I’m close enough to actually get some warm air on them. This part is going Verry slow! Appreciate the article and the comments from others.

I used peanut butter to help our Bichon Frise love his baths instead of fighting his way out like two of my other puppies that I have raised. I got that idea from his vet who uses that tactic to give him his shots.

I got my English springer used to the shower with me. I would especially make “bath” time that way. after a scrub & a good rinse, turn water off and towel dry, he would sit with another towel over him. So cute. I would get clean and we would dry together! LOL! I WAS BLESSED WITH HIM BECAUSE HE WAS VERY SMART!

I read this after her first bath. I did everything as you suggested, in the sink, etc. However, I used the sprayer and I think it scared her. I won’t next time! Thanks for the good advice!

I agree Lucy. I have owned a puppy before my current one but that was when I was very young and I never consulted the internet or anyone else for that matter. She was well fed and taken care of but because I was poor at bathing her she stunk terribly as she got older and it was an embarrassment when I took her to the vet. I never got her into the habit young and when I started to bathe her as she got older it was foreign to her and upset her. I think the advice in this article is genuinely helpful. I’m glad I gave it a read because I havnt had a puppy in 13 years and now I know the best way to start her off. Thanks for the article!
