LOVE THIS….
That is so our Ms Pebbles ( 5mths )
Though quite intelligent his personality is a cross between Jethro on the Beverly Hillbillies & Ricochet Rabbit.

Hi Laurie! I read your comments w/great interest as I adopted two puppy mill moms 2 mths ago & 1, a pom, is adjusting well but my sweet mini aussie who just celebrated her 3rd birthday is having a much harder time. I had a large fenced doggy yard out back but added a fenced front one to help her adjust to seeing people. I have one male friend who has been working w/helping her see that there are kind men. She will allow both of us to pet her if she’s in her crate but neither of us can touch her if outside the crate. The pom climbs up & sits on the couch w/me but she just walks by looking at us. I’ve read that you should never pull them out of their crate, even gently so not bringing her up on couch w/me. I did do that sev times before I read that & could tell she was way out of her comfort zone. Wondering if you’ve found any tricks to getting yours to feel comfortable around humans.

I have a 18 month old Mini Aussie. I am friends with the breeder and know both of his parents who are also minis. My dog is 23 inches tall & weighs 57 lbs. are you familiar with a recessive gene or something that would make one out of 8 in a litter a standard? He weighed 9 lbs at 8 weeks & was the biggest in that litter.

I just bought one and he’s 8 weeks old. He already asks to go out to potty and is the sweetest little guy. I googled for months about them and the internet would constantly talk me out of getting one but so far I’m glad I got him. He’s just so smart!

What is the other option other than taking these things from their mouth?

I have a five month old mini, I consider her to have possession aggression and I believe that to be my fault. I have had her since she was 8 weeks, I panicked anytime she put stuff in her mouth like rocks, plastic etc. Not knowing how to handle her I would take the item from her buy prying her mouth open. I believe I created this behavior in her. Her instructor showed me what to do and now she’s better. But she does not like sharing her toys, food and personal item with other dogs.

My Mini, now almost 14 years young, can at times gags when she barks and gets excited or twists her body to clean herself. I saw one person noted his dog has a narrowed esophagus. I feel this is a problem from shrinking the size of the dog, maybe their esophagus is too short? My dog was up for adoption because she was never socialized. The puppy mill had her have 1 litter of puppies every year for 3 years. She was very scared of people especially men. She worked out fine in my home where there were three adults only. She has hypothyroidism. I have had her now for 11 years. They are known to be called the velcro dog, because they align with one person in the household and follow them everywhere. That’s me! I love her! Her name is Firefly, named by someone in Tennesee. She is a beautiful red merle.

My neighbor has a miniature Australian sheep dog who could not keep down food. They found a narrowing of his esophagus and had surgery but it did not last. The constriction returned. They had 2 more surgeries and same results. This was 3 years ago and they decided to take his dog food, put it in a blender to make it close to powder and they add water to it to feed him – enough water so it is kind of a ‘slurry’ where he can lap it up but it is not too thick so as not to be able to go down. This has been remarkable and he is now 12 years old. Hope this helps you.
